Red Oak Library Opens High-Tech Makerspace with Google’s Support

Innovation just found a new home in Red Oak. The Red Oak Public Library cut the ribbon this week on its brand-new Makerspace — a creative hub packed with tools for 3D printing, robotics, sewing, crafting, and more.
The project was made possible through a major investment from Google, whose support helped transform part of the library into a modern, hands-on learning space for the whole community. At the grand opening, Mayor Mark Stanfill, City Councilmembers, city staff, and community partners joined the Red Oak Friends of the Library to celebrate the milestone. Inside the Makerspace, visitors will find: - MakerBot 3D printers for designing and prototyping - Brother sewing and embroidery machines - A Cricut Venture with a Mac desktop for professional cutting and design - Robotics kits from LEGO and Engino - Plus other tools to support creativity and innovation Library staff say the goal is to make technology accessible to everyone — whether you’re a student testing out robotics, a small business owner prototyping designs, or a hobbyist exploring new crafts. To use the space, patrons must first complete a short safety orientation video online. Equipment can be reserved in advance through the library’s booking site. Most materials (like fabric, thread, or vinyl) should be brought by the user, but the tools and guidance are provided free of charge. The Makerspace will also host workshops, safety courses, and regular programs to help residents learn new skills. Pre-booking is strongly recommended since equipment availability is limited.
