287 Crash Involving Cattle Truck Closed Hwy 77 Intersection
A semi-truck hauling cattle crashed Thursday afternoon in Waxahachie, sending the driver to the hospital and leaving dozens of animals scattered and injured.
The wreck happened around 2:50 p.m. on September 18, when the driver reported a tire blowout. The semi, pulling a trailer with 20 bulls and 32 calves, veered between two bridges and hit an embankment.
The male driver was transported for medical care and is in stable condition, according to officials. No other vehicles were involved and no other people were hurt.
Emergency crews spent the afternoon working to recover the herd. A veterinarian on scene has been treating the animals, and most have already been loaded and moved from the area.
Hazmat teams also responded after a fuel spill from the truck. That spill has since been contained.
Highway 287 remains open, but the busy intersection at 287 and Highway 77 is closed and isn’t expected to reopen until later tonight. Drivers are being asked to take alternate routes until the scene is cleared.
