Storm Debris Closes Spring Park and Part of Waxahachie Creek Trail

Waxahachie residents will need to avoid a couple of popular outdoor spots this week after weekend storms left behind flooding damage, downed branches and piles of debris.
According to the City of Waxahachie, Spring Park at Lake Waxahachie is closed until further notice because of storm-related debris and maintenance needs caused by recent flooding. City crews said large amounts of driftwood, branches and other debris have collected along the shoreline, creating unsafe conditions throughout the park. Crews are assessing the area and working to reopen it as quickly and safely as possible. Boat Dock Park remains open at this time. The city also announced a partial closure of the Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail. The trail is closed from Matthews Street, near Wags-a-Hachie Dog Park, to Lions Park until further notice. That section was impacted by high water, downed trees, branches and other debris. Cleanup work has already started, and crews will continue working to restore the trail. The trail remains open from Wags-a-Hachie Dog Park to Getzendaner Park. For now, residents should avoid the closed areas and watch for future updates from the city before heading out.
