According to Ellis County and District Attorney Lindy Beaty, Marquael Odoric Greer was convicted July 21 of assault–family violence with a previous family violence conviction. His punishment range was increased because of multiple prior felony convictions. Prosecutors said the assault happened in October 2025 after the victim ended her relationship with Greer. He reportedly followed her to her grandmother’s apartment in a Midlothian senior living community, pulled her inside by her hair, threw her to the ground and choked her. The woman escaped and ran toward the community office. Midlothian police found her bleeding, with scratches around her throat and swelling near her eye. A neighbor who heard the woman yelling photographed Greer and his vehicle as he left. Police later located him and found the victim’s phone and car keys in his possession, according to the district attorney’s office. During the punishment phase, jurors heard evidence of previous domestic violence cases involving Greer, along with prior prison sentences for burglary, family violence , drug and firearms offenses. The jury also heard evidence that Greer previously threw a small puppy from a vehicle on a Parker County freeway, killing the dog. The case was heard in Ellis County’s 443rd Judicial District Court before Judge Grace Pandithurai.
