Ellis County Mourns Treasurer Cheryl Chambers

Ellis County is mourning Treasurer Cheryl Chambers, a longtime public servant remembered by those who knew her as sharp, dependable and deeply devoted to the people around her.
In the county’s official announcement, Ellis County Judge John Wray remembered Chambers for the way she approached public service and the people around her. “Cheryl Chambers truly exemplified that spirit of service throughout her years with Ellis County,” Wray said. “Her dedication, friendship, and commitment to the people of this county will always be remembered.” As county treasurer, Chambers worked closely with people across Ellis County government and became someone many colleagues relied on and respected. Ellis County Commissioner Precinct 2 Matthew Zajic described Chambers as a community leader and good friend. He said the two spoke by phone almost every morning since he became commissioner, sometimes for only a minute and often much longer. “She was sharp as a tack and truly a confidant for me at the county,” Zajic wrote, adding that the courthouse would not feel the same without her. Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison called her “a dedicated public servant who was respected all across Texas” and asked the community to pray for her family and friends. Ennis Mayor Kameron Raburn and his wife, Cassidy, also expressed their condolences, saying their hearts were with the Chambers family, her friends, coworkers and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Chambers leaves behind a record of public service, along with many colleagues and friends who remember the person behind the office.
