Lauri Hartley Selected as Republican Nominee for Ellis County Treasurer
Lauri Hartley has been selected as the Republican nominee for Ellis County Treasurer following the death of longtime Treasurer Cheryl Chambers.
The Ellis County Republican Party Executive Committee chose Hartley to replace Chambers on the November general election ballot.
Hartley has years of experience in the Ellis County Treasurer’s Office. She has held several roles in the office, including deputy treasurer and chief deputy. County Judge John Wray said Hartley worked alongside Chambers for many years and has a strong understanding of the Treasurer’s Office and its day-to-day operations.
The Republican committee’s selection determines who will appear as the party’s candidate for treasurer in November, but it does not fill the current vacancy in the office.
Ellis County Commissioners Court must separately appoint someone to serve as county treasurer for the remainder of Chambers’ current term, which ends Dec. 31.
That appointment is expected to be considered during the Sept. 1 Commissioners Court meeting. Wray said he plans to recommend that commissioners appoint Hartley to serve through the end of the year, citing her experience in the Treasurer’s Office and her selection as the Republican nominee.
If commissioners approve the appointment, Hartley would serve as county treasurer for the remainder of 2026 while also appearing on the November ballot for the next term.
