Ellis County voters will have familiar faces in Washington and Austin after the Nov. 3 election. U.S. Rep. Jake Ellzey, state Rep. Brian Harrison and state Sen. Bob Hall all won another term. The change comes in Texas Senate District 22, where Republican David Cook won the open seat for the term beginning in January.
Ellis County made the difference for Ellzey in the 6th Congressional District. He beat Democrat Danny Minton by 11,629 votes in Ellis County, 49,320 to 37,691. Across the entire district, Ellzey won by 11,620 votes, 140,014 to 128,394. In the unofficial count, Minton carried the rest of the district by just nine votes.
In the Texas House, Harrison held District 10 with 46,461 votes (54.3%) to Democrat Michael Myers' 39,036 (45.7%). Hall faced a closer race in Texas Senate District 2, beating Democrat Keenen Colbert with 51.4% districtwide. Hall had more room in the Ellis County portion of the district, where he took 57.3%.
In Senate District 22, Cook, a state representative and former Mansfield mayor, defeated Democrat Amy Martinez-Salas 186,433 to 146,611 districtwide. He succeeds Birdwell, who resigned in May to take a Pentagon post. Ellis County voters in the district gave Cook 54.8% for the new term. Tuesday, November 3, 2026
Cook and Martinez-Salas appeared twice on the ballot. A separate special election covered only the weeks remaining in Birdwell's term. Cook also carried Ellis County in that contest, 55% to 45%.
