Midlothian Fire Department Promotes Ted McPherson to EMS Chief
Midlothian Fire Department has promoted Ted McPherson to EMS Chief, recognizing nearly two decades of service, leadership, and commitment to emergency medical care in the community.
McPherson has served Midlothian residents since 2005, holding several roles within the department over the years. Department officials said he has built a reputation for professionalism, dedication, and a strong focus on patient care and firefighter development.
Since becoming EMS Captain in 2023, McPherson has helped advance the department’s EMS operations, support field personnel, and strengthen the level of care provided to the community.
McPherson steps into the role following the retirement of Chief Kevin Cunningham, whose career in fire service and EMS left a lasting mark on the Midlothian Fire Department and the broader emergency medical services community.
Cunningham was recently celebrated by friends, coworkers, and family members, who gathered to honor his service and the impact he made throughout his career. As he and his wife, Sarah, begin retirement, the department wished them the best in this next chapter, including more time for family, travel, and new adventures.
McPherson’s promotion puts him in a key leadership role overseeing the department’s EMS division as Midlothian continues to grow. The department said his experience and commitment make him a strong fit for the position.
