Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Goes AI
The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office will launch an AI-assisted voice system for its non-emergency phone line on Friday, July 24.
The system, developed by Hyper, will answer calls to 972-937-6060 and may ask callers a few questions before providing routine information, directing them to county resources or transferring them to a telecommunicator.
Calls will be transferred to a person if the system detects a possible emergency, cannot understand the caller or encounters a situation outside its procedures.
The service will operate 24/7, support multiple languages and record and transcribe interactions.
Sheriff Brad Norman stressed that the system will only assist with non-emergency calls. All 911 calls will continue to be answered by human telecommunicators.
