Primary Runoff Election Day Arrives in Ellis County

Today is Election Day for Texas’ primary runoffs, and Ellis County voters have a local race to watch closely: the Republican runoff for Ellis County Commissioner Precinct 2.
That race features **Matt Zajic** and **John Paul Dineen III**, two candidates with deep ties to Ellis County agriculture and local community life. Zajic is a lifelong Ennis resident and Ennis High School graduate. He earned a degree in Financial Markets and Sales from the University of Oklahoma before returning to Ellis County. He operates Zajic Farms, a cattle and ranching business he started while in college. Dineen is a Waxahachie farmer and business owner who has farmed full-time for more than three decades. He raises crops and livestock and operates The Yellow Farmhouse, a local farm-based food business that has sold products directly to the public and at the Waxahachie Farmers Market. He has also served in several agricultural leadership roles, including with Ellis County Farm Bureau and Texas Farm Bureau. The winner of the Republican runoff will move forward as the party’s nominee for the Precinct 2 commissioner seat. Several statewide races are also on the runoff ballot. On the Republican side, one of the biggest contests is the U.S. Senate runoff between incumbent **John Cornyn** and Texas Attorney General **Ken Paxton**. The race has drawn major statewide and national attention, especially after Donald Trump endorsed Paxton late in the campaign. Republican voters are also choosing between Congressman **Chip Roy** and State Sen. **Mayes Middleton** for Texas attorney general. Another statewide GOP runoff is for Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 3, between **Alison Fox** and **Thomas Smith**. Democrats also have statewide runoffs. In the lieutenant governor race, **Marcos Isaias Velez** faces **Vikki Goodwin**. In the attorney general race, **Nathan Johnson** faces **Joe Jaworski**. For Ellis County residents, the local Precinct 2 race may be the one with the most direct impact. County commissioners help oversee roads, county budgets, development decisions, and other services that shape daily life across the county. Results from today’s runoff will help set the stage for the November general election.
