K9 Officer Farock Remembered After Heat-Related Death in Ennis
The Fairfield Police Department is mourning the loss of K9 Officer Farock, a German Shepherd who served the department and the Fairfield community with loyalty, courage, and distinction.
According to a press release from the Fairfield Police Department (Freestone County), Farock died on June 12, 2026, following what officials described as a “heat-related incident” in Ennis (Ellis County). The Ennis Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, and Fairfield police say they are cooperating fully.
Farock was more than a police K9. He was a public servant, and a living being who depended on the people around him for care and protection. Police dogs work in difficult and sometimes dangerous conditions, and their service deserves to be honored with compassion and respect.
The press release also states that after the department completed an Internal Affairs investigation, the officer involved was terminated from employment on June 18. The department did not provide further details about that decision, but it does suggest that officials took the matter seriously.
