The jury found Shaw guilty of murder on October 5, 2026, according to the Ellis County and District Attorney’s Office. Shaw claimed self-defense during the trial.
Prosecutors said the evidence showed Shaw shot the victim once in the chest inside his home, then twice in the back as he fled barefoot into his driveway. His aunt found him dead there the next morning.
Shaw and the victim had become romantically involved in fall 2023. According to the DA’s office, he had asked her to leave his home several times in the weeks before the killing, though they repeatedly reconciled. Messages recovered from his phone showed Shaw responding with increasing anger.
A neighbor reported hearing three or four gunshots around 11 p.m. on December 3, spaced several seconds apart.
Ellis County Sheriff’s Office investigators found .40-caliber cartridge cases inside and outside the trailer, along with a blood trail leading from near the doorway to the driveway. Autopsy findings were consistent with the victim being bent over and moving away when he was shot in the back, prosecutors said.
Investigators also recovered a credit card bearing Shaw’s name outside the home and found her fingerprints inside. Cellphone location data placed her at the scene around the time of the killing and showed her leaving afterward, according to the DA’s office. A .40-caliber handgun identified as the murder weapon was recovered in a nearby backyard.
The morning the victim was found, Shaw called for medical help near Ovilla Road and Pratt Road, about two miles from the scene. Prosecutors said she claimed to be pregnant and in pain, but did not mention the shooting to emergency responders or hospital staff. The DA’s office said investigators later determined the pregnancy claim was false.
At trial, prosecutors challenged Shaw’s self-defense account with the gunshot wounds to the victim’s back, her messages before the killing and her conduct afterward.
The case was heard in the 443rd Judicial District Court before Judge Grace Pandithurai.
