Brown Water Showing Up in Ferris, Palmer, and Bristol — Officials Say It’s Safe

Residents in Ferris, Palmer, and Bristol have been spotting brown water flowing from their taps — and while it looks alarming, city officials say it’s safe to use.
According to the City of Ferris, the discoloration is coming from elevated manganese levels in the water supplied by Rockett Water. Manganese is a naturally occurring mineral that can surface when lakes “turn over” during seasonal changes. Both Rockett Water and the City of Ferris say the water has been tested and meets all state safety standards. “If at any point the water did not meet safety standards, Rockett Water and the City of Ferris would immediately notify the public and take corrective action,” officials noted in a public update. Rockett Water is running 10–15 water quality tests per week to monitor conditions closely. While the discoloration may stick around for a bit, leaders stressed that it doesn’t pose a health risk. Still, the brown tint has left many residents frustrated. The City acknowledged that frustration in its message: “We get it. It doesn’t look good. We know it’s frustrating, and we share that frustration.” For now, Ferris and neighboring communities are asking residents to hang tight while Rockett continues monitoring and adjustments.
